Armenian Urban Center

The Armenian Urban Center was created with the help of Vahag Mardirossian at the request of Sara Chitjian, to provide relevant Armenian cultural material to the LAUSD school system. He fashioned it after the Hispanic Urban Center which he had previously developed. At Zaruhy’s (Sara Chitjian) request, he initiated the Armenian Urban Center that was offered a $250,000 a year grant from the State to develop the project. Sara Chitjian also created the Armenian Teachers association that was working in collaboration with the Armenian Urban Center to develop scholastic material for the curriculum. Unfortunately Zaruhy could not find Armenian educators to help her implement the program and after five years of renewing the Grant offer, she reluctantly let it go. This was a sad commentary on the Armenian dis-unity.

Below are the numerous documents archiving all the work Sara did in developing the Armenian Urban Center.
