Hampartzoum Chitjian July 28, 1977 Audio Interview
In contrast to my mother, My father never stopped talking about his past, the good times and the sad, he never stopped talking. At the drop of a pin, he would remember something, good or bad. Sara says, “I know his autobiography better than I know my own”.
This recording of Hampartzoum is special because It was the first time there was interest in hearing and recording his experiences of the Armenian Genocide in 1915 Ottoman Turkey. For most of Hampartzoum’s life, whenever he tried to speak of these traumatic events, he was met with disregard. It was therapeutic for him to speak aloud and be listened to.
